What is meningioma?
A Meningioma is a type of brain tumour which starts in the meninges, which are the layers of membrane which protect the brain and spinal cord. Most meningiomas are benign.
What causes meningioma?
The cause of Meningioma is unknown. However, people who have had radiation to the head previously and a genetic condition called type two neurofibromatosis are at greater risk. Meningiomas make up 25% of brain tumours.
What are the symptoms of meningioma?
The symptoms of Meningioma depend on the size and placement of the tumour. However, the most common symptoms are:
- Headache
- Nausea
- Seizure
- Sight issues
- Changes in personality
- Confusion.
