The Brain Charity

A fundraiser has joined in with The Brain Charity’s 30 for 30 challenge in a completely unique way –  by creating 30 different makeup looks during the month of February!

Amanda, who loves makeup and beauty, has painted her face to represent different neurological conditions including dementia, Alice in Wonderland syndrome, Lyme disease, Down’s syndrome and viral meningitis.

The fundraiser decided to support The Brain Charity after being diagnosed with cerebellar tonsillar ectopia, a form of Chiari malformation, in January 2022 and has since accessed our counselling service.

Amanda said: “It has been a long year and I have been quite unwell with my illness – most of the time I felt like I had nowhere to turn. When I have bad days, it’s difficult to understand what to do.

“I came across The Brain Charity, and it was a relief knowing someone there someone would be there at the end of the phone.

“I’m so thankful The Brain Charity are here, as I don’t know what I would have done on my bad days when I felt alone and in despair otherwise.”

Amanda decided she wanted to give back and when she spotted our 30 for 30 challenge, decided to put her own creative spin on it.

She has been doing creative makeup for three years, and said the looks each took her 2 to 4 hours to complete in total.

Amanda added: “I started doing creative makeup when my mental health was at an all time low and it was my saviour and therapy.

“Makeup and being creative is what I know best, so that’s why I chose to use it to fundraise.

“My favourite look is the Down Syndrome one – I know some beautiful people with Down Syndrome and I feel honoured to show support on their behalf.

“I was also born with an extra chromosome, which makes it more personal for me to support.”

Amanda has dedicated her fundraising to her grandma Irene, who was taken too soon due to a brain condition.

She added: “While I never got the chance to meet her, I’ll always hold her close to my heart.

“I want to dedicate this fundraising to her and to everyone else experiencing a neurological condition.

“Never lose hope – we got this!”
